4 salmon per day - total!

This rule is not new. So discouraging to see talking more than 4 per day because they believe the individual limits for Chinook, pink, coho etc. govern. They do, but you cannot keep more than 4 salmon total of any kind in a single day.

Crucifish tandem dummy flasher - opinions/experiences?

Came across this on the internet. I use “regular” dummy flashers exclusively but I am curious about these “Crucifish” flashers. I would be grateful for anyone’s experiences and/or opinions about these. They are quite expensive, but they seem to be well made with stainless steel hardware.

    Trailer winch recommendations

The ancient electric winch on my trailer has died and I’m looking to replace it with a manual winch. I moor my boat most of the year and only launch and retrieve a few times a year, which is why I’m going for a manual. It’s a roller trailer and I’m guessing my 18 foot Hourston hardtop (115...

    Discouraging

https://www.cheknews.ca/dfo-hands-out-multiple-tickets-in-southern-gulf-islands-enforcement-blitz-856373/ Very discouraging to see so much non compliance. The resource will suffer if we depend on enforcement rather than the honesty of fishers for rules to be followed.

    Wiper motor and blade

My wiper motor died today. It looks like it’s the original (boat manufactured in 1989). Any recommendations on replacement, or at least what to avoid? Some of the motors are really expenaive ($200 to $500), but others are a lot less. It’s a Hourston 18 hardtop, so I need my wiper. Thanks in...

    Sooke to Bamfield

Never been to Bamfield to fish, so I thought I’d give it a try. Interested in trailering my boat out there from Sooke. I know that you can get there by going down the TransCanada highway to Port Alberni and then down to Bamfield. My question is about the alternate route going through Port...

    Main to kicker tie rod

I’ve got a new kicker and the tie rod is too short. Who makes these things (it came with my boat when I bought it)? Sooke/Victoria area. The tie rod connects at the front of the motors, not the leg. I’ve maximized the length of mine (see picture) but it’s not long enough.

Booster pack for boat trailer winch?

I’ve got an old Powerwinch 912 boat trailer winch that came with the boat the boat and trailer When I bought them. Because I moor my boat pretty much year round, I don’t use the trailer much. I take it out about twice a year for clean up and maintenance. But I’m also going to trailer to a few...

Canvas fastener thread - unusual question

I moor my 18 Hourston hardtop in Sooke year round. It has canvas that covers the cockpit, extending from the roof to the splash well. A couple of the snaps where it attaches to the splash well broke in the summer, and it wasn't a problem because it still covered the cockpit nicely. Well, an...

    Current Tables for Halibut Fishing

I finally have sort of figured things out and did okay for halibut this year. But in reviewing the current tables for 2020, I noticed a couple of things that raise some questions. Hoping people chime in with some answers. First, in comparing Murray's Tables with the Borsboom Tables (free off...

    Tough question

I’m thinking about boating from Sooke (where I moor my boat) to Renfrew on a beautiful calm day, fishing for a while, and then heading back at the end of the day. With my luck as of late, I’ll catch no salmon. If I catch and keep one spring, no issue. But what if I caught and kept 2 springs...
