Yes the Tuna Derby a Newton Cove in Esperanza was converted to a Salmon Derby because of the precipitant gale wind especial up near Brooks where the Tuna may well be.
Good news is the Salmon fishing/catching in & around Esperanza is GOOD & getting better daily. It seem like the Chinook & Coho...
The message seem to be getting through. If it calm go Outside above Esperanza.
If you must fish inside fish DEEPER than you normally would have in the past.
Inside use small glow flashy lures/hoochies or small anchovies.
FOJ call if you would like to talk 800 992 3252
The facts are pretty clear. No matter how much experience, Guide or Not if the fish are not in yet then going outside may be your only option for consistent catching.
Yes Esperanza has produced better than Nootka inside of the inlet but it also is lacking the normal volume of Spring.
The general...
Interesting how fishers react when they don't catch fish. Could it not be that they were not where the fish were. Or possibly fishing to shallow just because that's what they did last yr. (ever hear of warming water conditions) Not trying to say anything more than sometimes fishing deeper or in...
If you fished prior to last Sunday's evening tide you are correct in there where few Springs inside Nootka.
However after that day & tide lots of Chinook have been boated. Some of which where Tyees.
They have tail & they MOVE!!
FOJ
Pictures are put up to support the facts. We are so busy & full it is not important for us to do anything more than report the fact & help guide fisher to where they can SCORE!
Make it a GREAT day!

They finally arrived last night on the in coming tide. Above is Carol Campbell- she landed this 34lb Chinook. Her Husband Matt caught the small ones. LOL!! Several other fisher from the Marina Also scored on these chrome bright springs last evening.
The catching lit up Sunday evening from the...
Yes the Highway, 4 mile reef & the mouth of Esperanza have been HOT!
With daily Tyees hitting the cleaning tables.
Good news there was good action off San Carlos & Hanna Channel TODAY!!!
Maybe they finally arrived & are on the Bite!!

Yes they work well. Our Guides have released nearly 100 bottom fish successfully this season.
They should be mandatory for releasing these long live fish.
The above comments are right on. The 50-100-150 generally works for WCVI

Anchor up on the Pins Or Just South of the "T" with a chub bag & hold on.
We have not seen this many Halibut each day hitting the Marina cleaning tables in years.
Most boat are basically fishing/catching Springs on the flood tide on the Highway.
Then going to structure just landward of the...
Boats are ready but Terrafin is not yet giving us enough positive data to GO!
We will be out on the highway most days so on water intel will give us more info.
If things go as normal (what ever normal means) & after Fishing Chasing and Catching
Albacore TUNA for our 7th season by the 20th of...
All Good stuff spring fever!!
Yes anchovies rule but these newer Light House lit lures are a great option. Especially when fishing deep where a strike that does not hook up with anchovy rig usually needs to be pulled up for re-baiting, while the Light House set up usually keep fishing.
Evidence...
