You didn't read my post, nor was I pointing fingers. I never made any mention of Saltwater in it. I don't agree with 4 a day out there as well. And I'm not going to waste my time explain my thoughts on this either. Like I said my opinion. I like seeing rivers full of fish as well as oceans...
So ever year a river gets a good run we should just crack it open to retention? Why not let the runs build to historic levels especially ones that traditionally have small numbers of large fish returning. If you fished this river in the 90's and earlier you would know what I was talking about...
What a joke.
This system used to get the largest coho around till one year they decided to open it up to 4 a day. Nearly wiped it out. Don't see the need to open it ever for such a pristine system like that.
Ya its a funny thing about Sooke. Not many people catch fish on gear cause not many people are fishing gear. I used to think that bait was the only way to go up north until I started fishing gear. Once I made the switch, I actually caught more fish than with the bait, downside was not as big.
The hatch was a sad story. The head was kept as we were told it was one of the largest hatcheries ever taken on the cost. Put the head in the freezer and came back a week later and it was gone. Not sure where or what so we never did find out. Prob a Skeena as it was very early in the year (May...
Yes very common on the island to net a steelhead for C&R as it the fast rushing waters especially on the Cowichan, it can be very dangerous to try and tail a fish over the side of a drift in fast currents. Still think its safer for the fish than coasting it up on the rocks or sand to release it.
Once caught a tagged steelie in the Charlottes. Tag was from the Kalama River in Oregon. about 7 lbs. Cool to see a fish on its "second" migration as they tag them when they come back on their first trip.
Short day on the lake with the daughter. Lots of action nothing over 17" though. Saw KK anchored up on his honey hole. Seems like a few others were perched pretty close in as well. Lots of boats out today most of them were trolling.
How did you end up making out KK?
Took the kids out with Totally Tyee and started at hourbour mouth and headed south. lots of shakers so we headed back in tight. Put the spoons and hootchies down and left the chovies at home. Ended up with two whiteys 17lb and 30lbs and a hatch coho in short order. Nice to put the plastics to use.
