    2022 Sidney Reports

Here is the chinook map. The little white area east of Moresby is the only spot where you can fish for and keep 1 chinook between 62 and 80 cm. There's another for coho on the DFO site

    2022 Sidney Reports

Thanks, makes sense now. To me, fishing Coal Island always meant the area bounded by Charmer Pt on Coal, south to Dock Island and east to Greig Island, an area I decorated with a lot of gear over the last 25 years.

    2022 Sidney Reports

How is it that people are catching "keeper" chinooks at Coal when, as of Aug 1st, half the island is covered by a chinook non-retention zone and the other half is a permanent RCA?

    2021 Sidney Reports

Fished Hamley area on Saturday for several hours, no action at all for us, only saw 2 nets out all day but saw lots of US boats running over from the San Juan Islands. Towards the end of the day we were the only Canadian boat there...what's up with that? I guess as long as you don't bounce your...

    2021 Sidney Reports

I'm confused...my understanding of the regs is no retention of any chinook in areas 18 and 19 until at least July 31. Is everyone just catching and releasing salmon?

    Sidney Spit

We're sitting at the Spit right now. It looks like a mid summer day there's so many boats moored and anchored. The park is officially closed so there won't be any docks put in for now but the island is still accessible by dinghy/SUP/ kayak etc. There were a lot of people on the south beach when...

    Boat Launches Open/Closed

Good news, I drove by the Tulista ramp at 4pm and the sign saying the ramp is closed tomorrow is gone. The frame and stand is still there , lying on its side, but it's blank. I guess a new sign is in the works...

    2020 Sidney Reports

We are also making use of our Floating Isolation Pod at Fairfax today. Nothing yet but we remain optimistic and even if we dont catch anything, it just feels safer out here. Stay safe everyone...

    2017 Sidney Reports

Trolled Hambley for a few hours yesterday, not a sniff and we only saw one other fish played. Pretty nice day though and we got 7 big, hard crabs. They're in perfect condition right now.

    Sidney Reports 2015

We dropped our traps at the Spit on Saturday and then fished (anchored) between Halibut Island and Hambley Point for a few hours...nothing but a cabazon. There were 16 keepers in the traps though, and the weather was balmy and calm, so an excellent day all in all.

    Saanich Inlet

I haven't gotten out yet but a friend caught a nice little spring just north of Wain rock Wednesday about mid day. We're going to give it another try next week. I'll post our results. He was down about 70' with a coyote spoon, I didn't ask what pattern it was, but I know he likes Cop Cars.

    Saanich Inlet

I'm thinking about going out in the Brentwood/Bamberton area in the next couple of days and wonder if anyone has been having any luck lately. My wife and I met at the old Brentwood Inn in the early 80's (I worked in the Oak and Barrel, she in the Brig) so we had all day to fish, and we did. We...

    Victoria Reports 2015

Like I said on the Sidney thread: the best part of fishing this time of year is knowing that even if you don't come home with a keeper salmon, there's always the crab and/or prawn feast to look forward to...

    Sidney Reports 2015

Not necessarily, I've had lots of multi fish days in Sidney. The issue is the size of the fish...most of the springs seem to be just shy of the minimum 62cm, so one keep-able fish IS good. Having said that, the last few fish I've kept have been 16-20 pounds (from Hambley and Fairfax) and my...

    Old Flare Disposal

I just keep them. I figure if I'm ever in a position to need flares, the more the merrier. In a desperate situation I would rather have a bunch of flares that will probably work than the required minimum "fresh" flares. My recollection from discussions like this in the past is that the failure...

    Sidney

The fish were about 10#, one on bait, the other on a cop car coyote, both behind the original green/silver and red/silver flashers. Both fish were at 70' in 150'-175' of water and one of them was white. We didn't do the prawn trap/Fairfax plan yesterday, we decided to go back to Hambley and do...

    Sidney

Set the crab traps at the Spit and started at the powder wharf. No action there so we moved to Hambley where we found a couple of springs. Back to the Spit for 5 crabs, a fresh salmon bbq and an awesome sunset. Life is good here. Tomorrow we'll pull the crab traps then drop the prawn trap on the...

    Sidney

We're going out tomorrow to try Sidney Channel, the Powder Wharf, Hambley and Fairfax, not necessarily in that order. I'll post the results when we get back Thursday.

victoria bc - sidney salt water fishing...

I live in Sidney, and although I’ve never fished from the pier, I have caught coho salmon and sea-run cutthroat flyfishing the beaches nearby. I’ve trolled up a fair number of salmon and a couple of halibut and sole about 2 klicks out from the pier. Unfortunately a lot of them are too small to...
