We go in a 16 ft Whaler (Dauntless) and are mindful of the weather. Last year we spent a lot of time out past the lighthouse to Maquinna. We watch the reports daily, and if it’s questionable we opt inside. Winds usually pickup in the PM so we always left before then.

Been in Nootka since the 8th. Only hooked up once inside, we’ve got a few Springs and Coho out by Maquinna. Chovie, Turd and blue live image have caught our fish.

Heading to Moutcha Bay on the 8th. If we were to make the run to Esperanza, do you know is there fuel along the way? Looks to be nearly 80-ish miles round trip.

Agreed, last year we had a slow first couple of days and then the bite came on strong. If it is slow just have to mix things up with location, depth, bait etc.

Is there halibut opportunity right outside the sound near Maquinna Pt or the Lighthouse in August? Been looking at maps/navionics trying to locate some places closer in for a smaller boat. It looks like it could produce, but I’m not sure if the halibut would be there in August or if they head...

What paguy said, big flood lights are important. The hardcore folks run generators with big flood light setups to draw in the squid.
