Hey Andrew,
I have fished the north arm alot over the years in my 16ft harbourcraft. I like the north arm because you can get in to relative safety pretty quick if need be. I watch the wind reports like a hawk both the night before and during. As was said the whole area north to south can blow up pretty fast. Another thing to think about is waves from some big tugs/ships. Just be cautious and if the wind is low you will be fine. I highly recommend you have a kicker in case the big one has issues. Also have a handheld vhf and always wear a life jacket on a boat that size. Another member lost someone recently on something way bigger,so it can happen. From now on I'm not taking my self inflating one off and will require all on my boat to do the same. There will be lots of boats around that I am sure would help in an emergency, me included.
Hope this helps.
