WHALE WATCHING HARASSMENT

Do you have any idea how much whale watching companies give to the Pacific Salmon Foundation every year? You better do your homework before you start shooting blindly around in anger!

Non-relevant point. I would gladly shut down whale watching along the southern coast for ignornance to thier ignorance to the rules - similar to your ignorant response. There is no price tag on protecting the Southern Orcas. We can start by naming and shaming the outfits that harass these endangered pods.

Bottom line .........

No one should be legally allowed to Chase, Harrass, Follow, Leap Frog, any Whales.
200 m zone or NOT ........ These so called Ambassadors of the WHALES are more of a threat to their existence then what our officials are allowing IMO.
Day after day after day they chase. Even radio others on locations. But no the chasers are not the problem, even in the quiet zones........ I hope their proud of themselves and sleep well.

Yet again......... Government turns a blind eye........ Pathetic.

They have a system in place to maintain coverage on the whales. The tours are only a couple of hours so boats are constantly going in to pick up new groups. There is a need to always have some boats chasing so the location can be relayed to the boats coming out to maintain a minimum of time wasted searching. If the whales move out of range they let the guys along the coast know they are coming so they can continue the chase. All of them cooperate as it's in their best interests to keep on the whales, even if it means the competitor outfits keep on them too.

The population of the southern resident killer whales was likely never large. They suffered a big drop in the early 1970s when some 47 animals were captured to be sold to aquariums.

of course DFO allowing this has zero impacted on today population....

Obviously DFO allowed the live catches, but this was very much a case of DFO just allowing something that much of the fishing population, sport and commercial, wanted as it wasn't that long ago the scapegoat for perceived salmon shortages was Killer whales, not seals as it is currently (seals had been almost exterminated already) They were largely seen as salmon eating vermin, and it wasn't just DFO , the Vancouver aquarium and of course Bob Wright were the ones actually wanting permits and doing the captures and making money off of them. The Aquarium charged people 75 Cents to see them in the enclosure in Pender harbour where they ere kept before transport. Its easy to look back and say DFO were idiots for allowing it, which they were, but it was very much influenced by the ignorance of a previous generation of fisherman, and even the general public who just did not care.

But of course... this is just another piece of the puzzle thus arriving to were we are today.. there is simply just not one reason why....

Given your response a little more thought.. I may have asked this of you before... so in a prefect world how would u fix this issue..interested in the response.

The a Powered Wolf Pack of Harrasment boats hard at ER yesterday off Vancouver pounding the Orcas ..........
200M zone, ya right, what's that ? How Pathetic. Chase Chase Chase .......... Yet they claim to be Stewards of the Blackfish.
Several Whale Watching companies involved in this activity yesterday. Hopefully someone can post a video.
IMO ......... These outfits ARE the problem of the Whales not feeding properly. They were very close, and continued disregarding the 200 M zone......... It goes on all the time.
If your fishing when the whales come through, shut off your sounder, and motor if current and conditions allows safely, slowly, move in the opposite direction of the Orcas travel. Don't do what so many of these Clown operators are doing. Chase Chase Chase. Where's DFO with their Big Club to hammer down on these Harrasment Boats.
