First Week on Summer 2016
Yes, it was very productive for Spring/King, Ling and Halibut.
The pictures say it all. We have not seen Halibut in these numbers in many years.
The Springs/ Kings/Chinook have arrived in GOOD numbers in Nootka at Maquinna Pt., Bajo & Beano Creek. In Esperanza at Ferrer Pt., Outer Blk. Rk & all the regular spots on the World Famous Salmon Super Highway.

Sport fishers be all "fishing is slow, only little guys around."
Charter dudes be like "best fishin eva!"

So is this a fishing report or an advertisement? If it is an ad it should be posted in the ad section of the forum me thinks.

Only fair to all the other fishing resorts that may want to advertise their businesses and help maintain good organization of this forum's content.

anyone else notice that this guide/resort has also bought quota so they can kill an 81 lb. hali.........?

Well... an 81 lb hali should measure out around 150 cm... but then again, maybe John's scale tends to exaggerate; it would certainly make for some good marketing.

Too funny. Isn't that the way it always is. Where are all those monster springs that are forecast for this year. Not many big ones being caught from most reports, and certainly very few tyee being reported.

not fair, that wasnt guides tho.... that was Ottawa, with their ear to ocean.

Quota Purchasers are not welcome here and 32 lb lings should be released.
IMO
Although I will give benefit of doubt the hali isn't 81 lb and may have been within the slot.

Well folks:
1st Fish On II is not FOJ (me) but it is a member of our staff that is doing a great job at showing
the better catches of the wk.
2nd we do not advocate nor have halibut quota. Never have never will.
3rd yes from time to time our scales do get wonky because of the many large hali that are coming to our cleaning tables ea, day.
4th you will not see a photo of any hali over 133cm on our site & yes the 81lb Halibut was 133cm.
believe it or not fish vary in girth just like we do. 2 six ft tall men can vary in weight from 150lb-250lb. Look around in your boat
for varification.
5th in fact that 31.25lb Spring was the 1st Tyee of the season. Yes lots of 12-27lbs have crossed the cleaning tables since we opened in May &
Guides do tend to be more productive than the average sometime fishers. Think about it they are on the water most days so they usually
Know where the fish are & what to use to catch them & they get paid to help fishers catch fish.
6th if you are fishing inside the salmon are much smaller than those being caught out on the Highway.
7th yes we agree that the large female Ling Cod should be returned to the sea. However our primary business is providing Moorage for
Approx 160 vessel in season. Most of which are sports fishers. Unfortunately not all fishers understand or want to listen to the logic of
returning large females to spawn & unfortunately they are not breaking the law.
8th Those who have made comments on Items 2, 4 & 7 obviously have no idea as to the yrs & much resources of time and $$ we have put into
Area 25 (Nootka & Esperanza) Salmon Enhancement, Habitat Rehabilitation & Volunteer Fishery Work .
9th the GOOD NEWS is the large run of bigger Chinook that has been projected is on it's way down Island. As per normal the run will turn
inside about July 15th when lots of larger catches show up from the Nootka Light House to Coopte Pt in Nootka & Pin Rks, Outer Blk Rks
outside of Catala Is in Esperanza & the new Chinook Regs that are about to be released will allow possession of 2 over 45cm in lots more
waters in Area 25 this season. Regs scheduled to come out next wk.
10th" IT IS ALL ABOUT THE FISH" Please come & Join us for FUN of the 13th Annual Salmon Enhancement Derby -Friday August 26 & Saturday August 27 - $60 entry fee- Thousands of $$$ in prizes & cash. We raised $35,500+ last yr for Area 25 Salmon Enhancement.

Thanks for the opportunity to comment.

lol... nice bragging post. glad all your guides are doing well.
funny how you keep saying its record year return, every year. no doubt there will be fish there but avg size is well below normal. to many local fish being caught and not enough going to the rivers. all this masked by lots of US bound fish traveling through. Nootka sound is a beautiful place to be, to bad everyone counts on just the conuma river.

Of course they're bragging and promoting themselves, but they're also providing some useful info that I'm hoping will benefit me. Thanks for the report FOJ II

Yes, lots of sour grapes on this thread, one reason why i don't post any reports for my area anymore. The guides always will get more and bigger fish because we are out pretty well every day.

I do agree on 1 point in that any commercial enterprise should run their own fishing reports thread

Keep doing your thing john screw the haters lol .. nice report

I've been enjoying the posts/updates! Lots of pics, and its nice to see that guys are slaying them up island! It gives me hope that more fish will show up soon around Vic. Makes me want to make a trip up there. It seems that someone always has to be a debbie downer about others positive posts on this site. Comes with the territory I guess.

Classic case of this discrepancy in fishing reports on our charter a week ago. Our group leader called a few days ahead to confirm some details and chatted with the lodge manager. He got a glowing report of salmon running and big fish caught. When we arrived, our guides said not one of the lodge's boats had caught its limit on springs in three weeks. The misrepresentation was unnecessary, we had already paid a substantial deposit and were well and truly committed. I'm not being a hater here, just pointing out that any business, fishing or otherwise, will present itself in the best possible light.
