St Mary lake, Saltspring

I have fished the lake lots, if you are after trout you can bait fish from shore, but hopefully you have a boat. If you fly fish, tow a crystal leech / wooly bugger on a full sink line slowly (type 2 or 3 full sink line is preferred) we always do well there that way. If you don't fly fish, trolling a cowichan spoon & worm can be dynamite out there as well.

Good luck!

maroon bugger trolled slow, worked for me, but I have only been there twice

I think the great thing about that lake is that many things work-slow trolling flies as mentioned and I've taken many Cutts on Bass gear-mainly crankbaits but also different soft plastics and bug spins.

Great lake to fish from, I was targeting bass one morning there in early Sept. Caught a 3(?) pounder in shallows/grass on a top water frog and a 1(?) pounder on a weighted swim bait retrieved from deep water.

St Mary Lake, at one time had Steelhead, leftovers from the Cowichan stocking program - not sure if they're still around?.. on the other hand my guess is the bass are alive and thriving...
