1981 Double Eagle gets a second chance

I enjoy the ripping apart almost as much as the build. You learn a lot about a boat taking it apart. Here are some pictures of a Campion I did. To answer your question the floor has a step down of about 7 inches so it gives you about 6’3 “ or so of hight. You do have to duck your head when going in. I am going to fix that.

One fuel tank and the water tank are now out. Second tank should be out by Sunday. Other than the floor the rest looks to be in good shape. Fingers crossed.

Good plan pulling the fuel tanks, are you going to replace them or just pressure test?

I will replace them, I am going to put an underfloor tank in so it lowers the centre of gravity and I can increase to 80 gal. These two tanks look in good shape so I will have them checked and sell them.

You won’t get 80 gallons under the floor, I got 51 us gallons in mine leaving about 16” at the stern for bilge pumps and through hull.

Thank you for the info and the picture. Might hold on to the twin tanks as well. Figuring it out as I go is the fun part

Here are a few more pictures. I will also take some of the inside as I remove stuff. The way Double Eagle fibreglassed everything to the hull is impressive. Quality all the way. I am impressed

Hi @DanJ
I just got my self an early 70’s 17’6” DE i/o project boat
End plan is to pod it put an outboard on it
In the process of stripping the boat down
Just want to know what you used to Pull the motor
I was going to use a motor hoist but I don’t think it’s going to have enough height to get it over the transom
Maybe you could give me some insight of what you did
Thanks cheers
Trevor

Hi Trevor, I was lucky and the motor was already out. All I had to remove was the Leg.

Depends on your engine hoist and how high your boat is sitting, but I used an engine crane to pull an inline six out of my Sangster. I may have pulled the head off to buy a bit more clearance, but I did make it work.

Thanks I’ll look to see who rents them

One option is to hire a small tow truck which I have done in the past. Reasonably priced at about $80 if I remember.
Driver was looking forward to the pull as it was something different to his day. Out in minutes.
