7.4L MPI

Kinda looking at a boat............ here is the write up on the ad.

"Powered by a big block 7.4L MPI engine with 1147 hours and a Bravo II sterndrive with new bellows and gimble bearing. The power plant is serviced and ready for the season."

The boat is meticulous. I just have no experience with inboards. If it checked out mechanically sound, how many more hours could I get out of it? What would some things I should be looking out for.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Paul

The number of hours to come really depends on how it has been operated and maintained so far. As Rain City mentioned, I would get a thorough mechanical inspection. Check the fuel tank, oil pan, starter, etc. Any water in the bilge will cause corrosion. Get the drive checked out, as well. Leaks around the transom are not uncommon, either. Baddog noted risers and manifolds - critical. The only sure way to check is to pull one side and check corrosion. No repair on these units is cheap.
