Scotty down rigger breaks

Breaks are slipping or isn’t slamming forward all the way to in gauge, i'm gonna sand the pads and plate should i wet sand dead smooth or slight grit ?? i've already tried tightening the lock nut and loosening it..

Just did everything like on that video took 15 min per side and she slips like a beaut.. damn i love repairing on my own when i can and better to know
your gear and boat through out if your out in the middle of nowhere you can fix things right away or just knowing the problem..

When was the last time you replaced your return spring? That help hold the break I change mine every year

had its serviced last fall, need springs and belt spares, the break lever underneath was very dry i stuck one drop on each beveled part and it shoots back really nice spring has good spring to it
