Is that the only advice from SFAB they acted on ?
sure seems like minimal results for the effort put forth.

There were a lot of other areas opened up ( read the entire notice). In no means am supportive of the fishing restrictions imposed on 19/20, but this at least gives folks a small opportunity to keep a hatchery fish if they wish. I disagree with you it was waste of time.

My thoughts are there was most likely some Fraser fish in the data, and CWT in the Sooke fishery in July. The bay likely indicated some hatchery heads. Not sure. I do know data was looked at to make these up.

This is just going to open up a bunch of poaching. I’m sure that everyone will be honest and all hatchery fish at the Dock will have come from this area. No one would ever do a few tacks for the GPS track then go catch hatchery fish some where else. That never happens in other areas with similar regs.
Just open up hatchery fish for retention for Fck sakes.

How about opening hatchery fish in Sooke harbour where the returning fish from net pen should be coming to. That would make more sense. A lot of local money and effort put in to put fish in the water and improve returns and create a fishery that does not effect the Frazer runs of concern. (Hats off to those involved)

Because that would make too much sense. Campbell River faces the same closure. Do you think any of those coloured fish hanging out in the Tyee pool in August are actually Fraser River fish? The sliver of a season allowed at the end, staging fish, only allows for retention of old boots.

Notes:

Barbless hooks are required when fishing for salmon in tidal and non-tidal waters of British Columbia.

The term "hatchery marked" means a fish that has a healed scar in place of the adipose fin.

Sport anglers are encouraged to participate in the Salmon Sport Head Recovery program by labeling and submitting heads from adipose fin-clipped Chinook and Coho
Salmon. Recovery of coded-wire tags provides critical information for coast-wide stock assessment. Contact the Salmon Sport Head Recovery Program toll free at 1-866-

Rockfish Conservation Areas (RCAs) are currently in effect and are closed to all fin-fishing. Descriptions of RCAs, other closures such as finfish closed areas and
salmon non-retention areas, and other recreational fishing information, can be found on the Internet at: www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/recfish

Typical , they post the Fish Notice but don’t change anything in the Regulations. What a messed up system they have.
Who can draw that line to show what portions of bechy bay is open for hatch retention.

Nice Day yesterday. Happy Canada Day. 4 for 6 on springs at Otter early. Then died off. Went out for coho. Gong show. So many around. Kept two hatchery coho. Springs totally died off after 9am. Went to Trap and Possession after 12pm Nothing. Seemed pretty quite for springs after 9am.

Evening worked out well tonight. Double header off the head For a couple hour float - both over 20. Released side of boat. No keepers for us but great fun with pops as fish we’re peeling line on both sides for a long time.

Put in a good shift on Canada Day with a couple good buddies. Fished the area inside Beecher Bay for a couple hours with about 10 others, including a Kayak-er, trying to find a clipped Chinook but didn't have any success and didn't see anyone else hook up save one small one released. Moved off to the Head and Trap Shack where we managed to get into the Coho. Must have been our day as everyone we got close enough to the boat to ID was clipped...I'm sure the 2 or 3 that we lost further out must have been un-clipped! I even threw a buck-tail out the back on an 8 wt. fly rod after seeing a few on the surface. Dragged it around for quite awhile and eventually had one take a big run at it, hit the fly, but didn't hook up. Would have been the cherry on top for the day! The water laid down nicely by about 7 AM which made for a great day filled with lots of laughs...what fishing is all about!

Nice #2 Islander reel or 3.8 ? Pin that to the downrigger for some chinook fun.

It is a No. 2. I have landed a couple of high teens Chinook on it but with a bit heavier fly rod. My biggest Coho on a bucktail was 13 lbs in Tofino about 2008 with the saltwater fly fishing program they used to run out of Weigh West.
Here is a picture of a buddy of mine with his fly rod and both of us with Chinooks caught on 9/10 weight rods.

Great morning around Otter today. 1 other boat there at 6am In the fog and maybe 10 off the point by 11. Released 9 springs at the boat from 8 lb to mid/high teens. Limit of Hatchery coho kept and seemed bigger than Monday too. Must have been close to 30 fish on the day, pretty much nonstop action.
