So what are your plans for the 15th?

This is how the extended fishing restrictions are being portrayed in the main stream media:

https://vancouversun.com/news/local...threatened-by-fraser-river-rock-slide-experts

"Grand Chief Stewart Phillip, president of the Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs, said his group fully supports a call from the Fraser Salmon Management Council to immediately stop all recreational and commercial Fraser River salmon fisheries."

Get out to the Protest on Monday in Victoria!

"The Fraser Salmon Management Council is a Tier 1 (First Nations-only) governance body currently in negotiations with Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO)."

No longer in negotiations but now part of DFO management regime

“Today, the Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, and Darren Haskell, President of the Fraser Salmon Management Council (FSMC), announced the signing of the Fraser Salmon Collaborative Management Agreement between Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) and the FSMC.”

I wonder how the other 49% feel about this. Looks to me like they are still playing one against the other.

"FSMC includes 76 member First Nations representing just over 50 per cent of British Columbia (BC) First Nations with access to Fraser salmon fisheries."

Absolutely ridiculous that they apply these restrictions to terminal fisheries.

Correct. Not one of these is a Fraser River Chinook and they will not be under the slot, so in reality this is a complete closure on retention doing huge damage to yet another of our coastal communities. The Federal Liberals are engaged in the pursuit of one of the most bungling incompetent, ignorant (as in lacking knowledge) fisheries management policies ever undertaken in Canada, doing billions of dollars in damage to coastal communities. You cannot blame DFO for this, it is their political masters who have ordered these generalized, completely non-evidence, non-science based politically derived restrictions.

Good fisheries management is a complex matter requiring the consideration of many factors, complexities and different realities and circumstance along the coast and its various river systems. These recent broad based applications are, while there is just no other word for it, - Incompetent Fisheries Management.

Good luck to all if you are fishing. Best of wishes for a succesful protest. I'll be at the dentist having a broken filling patched.

Off to Tofino next Sunday for 7 nights. Teaching my family and new dog not to fall overboard type fishing, so mostly low key short trips on the inside.

One again I agree. These are 100% Campbell River Chinook . To Shut down the world famous terminal iconic Tyee Club rowboat fishery, one of the least impactful and controlled fisheries on the planet, is an outrage. This achieves absolutely nothing in terms of protecting any Fraser Chinook. The liberals seem to be stumbling around in the dark, making one bad fisheries decision after another in knee jerk fashion without accepting input either externally or even from their own DFO experts. Then they refuse to correct their mistakes because they think it makes them look weak. How difficult would it be to show a little leadership and exempt the very small Tyee Pool area at the mouth of the Campbell River from the slot restrictions. But then these are the same geniuses who thought stopping the retention of marked Hatchery Chinook was a good idea.
