sooke/port renfrew halibut

hi can you help me catch a hali,i'm going to port renfrew and dont know much, but there about 10kms out from shore. i would really like to know the gps/long lat cordinates. but a basic idea would be helpful... thanks

Halibut are usually caught out at Swiftsure Bank out from Renfrew. You need an early start to miss the onshore winds. You fish the edges of the closed area right on top of the bank. A good start is to just get the coordinates of the closed area from the saltwater regs then follow the guide boats to the bank the first time...it's a long run with a really seaworthy boat. Once at the bank there is really good salmon fishing as well (use 7-inch plugs or big spoons but no bait--gazillion dogfish) use jigs or Delta Hali Hawgs or Berkley 8-inch grubs for halis.

DOn't even bother with Swiftsure, anchor up on the gravel beds in 100-300 feet of water.

Constance Bank is off Victoria, Race Rocks and Jordan River are off Sooke. Your best bet in Renfrew is either Sombrio Point, or Carmanah. 100-300 feet of water.
