Could be Brine Shrimp. Manitou Lake in Saskatchewan is full of them. Used to be called Sea Monkeys. Can purchase Brine Shrimp eggs at pet stores, hatch them in salt water. Use for fish food.

I actually bought one. Didn't work though. They are some kine of a freshwater crustation. Triops. Google them, they are kind of neat.
