salmon bellies

I'm going to try using salmon bellies for halibut bait this coming weekend. What dimensions are normally used? ie. 6in by 1/2 in by 1/2 in seems about right. Presumably one could have them too long or too thick. How do you hook it on? Planning on using a 10/0 circle hook.

In Cordova we were using Salmon Heads I don't think you can really screw up with bellies. Make sure and let them take it and hook themselves. Good luck!

Tough to go wrong with salmon bellies. GOod tip though, when you feel that little bounce, flip the bail and give them a few seconds of slack line, them let em have it.

I'd just use as big a piece as the hook allows - they can pretty much put their mouth around a cannon ball if they wanted to, so I wouldn't worry about using too big of a bait, as long as your hook is exposed.
