Can anyone comment on the validity of this statement. If this has already been discussed can someone point me in the right direction cause I can't seem to find it. Cheers

The salmon farming industry is making an aggressive bid for expansion through BC at the invitation of government. Private ownership of salmon in the ocean is on the table. Section 36 of the Fisheries Act is being removed from DFO,

section 36 used to be the deleterious substance clause - EC used to enforce it. Not sure how badly the A-hole Harper Gov't has f***** this one up with all the cowardly chicken-**** omnibus bills.

Article in the Comox Valley paper reported 2 tons of acqualture debris was cleaned up by Denman Island residents..... on land. What toxic laden **** is accummlating underwater and by tidal action sent out into the straight is anyone's guess. Globally, acquaculture is destroying natural habit from coral to mangroves along with natural marine stocks. Again, a small commerical interest is destroying vast resources that belong to everyone. Money talks and senior management of DFO is so far up the butt of foreign corporations they cannot stop the industrialization of this coast even if they wanted to. The present Minister has just recently ignored the advice of her own and private sector scientists to hold off on the mid coast herring fishery and has given the green light for a fishery prompting 1st nations to threaten a blockade. If all those interested in the preservation of the wildness of this coast in the interests of next generations could just get it all together, we could stop it.
