Port Renfrew Update

Notwithstanding the lousy forecast yesterday we ventured out to Port Renfrew to have a go. The hardest part was to get through the surf line at the mouth of the river but we made it safely. We started at the can bouy and trolled out to the 635 foot depth. 8-10 foot rollers but very little chop. In fact when we got to 600 feet it was dead calm for about 1/2 hour. No fish seen jumping and no fish on the line. Picked up and went to East Point and started again. Huge numbers of fish on the sounder but no takers. Eventually we moved from East Point and fishsed all over the bay. Again lots of fish on the sounder but no jumpers and no takers. Wind picked up from time to time which made it sloppy but still quite fishable.

Saw 4 other boats out all day but only heard of one small coho being caught. I am wondering if they have got lockjaw with all of the freshwater in the bay. Is it over for the year???
