Murky water at Sooke?

What's up with the murky brown water in the JDF strait? The Sooke basin this afternoon looked like overwhelmed by a red tide and even far out in the strait the water has a visibility of maybe 10 feet. On the weekend it was still clear! How is that supposed to help with the fishing, he? Isn't it hard enough already? Anybody ever seen that before?

Ive had good fishing with no surface vis and water as you described. It ushually doesnt go very deep or last that long.

Some sort of algae bloom is only a few inchs deep as algae needs lots of light to grow. it affects inside waters like bays and inlets more, as there are higher levels of nutrients from run off.you see it in pedder bay from time to time as well.

Sooke Basin is dark brown from Coopers Cove to Roche Cove.

I remember last year late Aug. I think it was.. one day there the water was all brown from Sooke H. all the way to Otter pt. Fishing in brown water all day long..

And no affect on the fishing? You rather fish with glow gear during those days? Or shallower/deeper?
