Spending a couple weeks in Florida. After fun times in Disney World we headed to Siesta Key, south of Tampa, for some vacation time. My son and I went offshore for an afternoon charter yesterday. Pretty crazy when you go 20 miles offshore and it’s only 90 feet deep. Had a great time. Caught and released lots of fish. Ended up keeping 3 grouper and couple pan sized snapper. Lost one big fish when it broke the line.
Pretty neat setup they use for drift fishing: a teardrop weight, above that two circle hooks spaced 2’ apart with small leaders and bait. Bait was squid and herring with the tail cut off and butterflied length-wise. Butterflying causes the bait to flutter, resembling an injured fish.
