Creosote pilings

It is documented and proven that herring are attracted to the dark shady surface that is creosote piling, and when they do spawn on the pilings, the eggs die before hatching.

I volunteer with a society that has witnessed this, and we have wrapped creosote pilings with filter cloth prior to the spawn to offer a safe and effective surface for them to spawn on. Check out the successes of these good people. http://www.squamishstreamkeepers.net/streamkeepers/Herring.html

Squamish has done an incredible job. Sooke, Saanich Inlet, & Gorge Waterway are ideal candidates to follow.
