2017 Victoria and Oak Bay Reports

We had a great day on Saturday out there. Had my brother and a rookie out and each had a blast playing some nice sized springs. We went 4:7 and landed 2 in the low teens and 2 in the higher teens.

Fishing the breakwater for my first time.
Stabicraft keeps catching fish.
Bonked an 18# and a 12#
Was my 11 year anniversary and my wife wanted to go fishing.
So it was my daughter (5 yrs old)As the captain for the double header.

Bloody nose teaser heads small anchovies

I apologize now if I wasn't tacking properly
The place was a zoo I couldn't figure out the correct way with all the boats out there.

Isn't it right rod rocks ?

Right rod to the rock, you got it. Nice work man!

Had a great day out there yesterday. Caught a couple pinks, let a couple Chinook in the 4 pound range swim free, and boated a 14 pounder. But the big highlight was hooking into a monster. Fought it for about 5 mins until it finally straightened my hook and that was that. Unreal how strong it was, guessing high 20's but likely low 30's.
We had a glimpse of it when it surfaced behind the boat. I've never had that happen to me, although I have read about it on here a couple times. The hook was brand new, I had just replaced it before I through the spoon down a couple hours earlier.

If you were targeting Pinks leaving out of Macaulay where would you go?
I don't have the time to run to Breechy or Pedder but want to take some visiting kids fishing and get into the pinks for a couple hours.
Do they come close to victoria in numbers?
I have the same question but launching at Cattle point and taking out two grandsons? Do I just head out from the flats into the straight , Constance?

Pinks are very spotty out front right now. The odd one being caught off McCauley and towards the yellow can bouy. Some in the 10 lb range.

How does Esquimalt/waterfront fish on a westerly wind? Got a pregnant sister coming down for a couple days and Thursday is looking breezy. Trying to find somewhere to hide if possible. 16' aluminum, tiller.

Fished 6:30-12 today. At 7am we had a double header. One didn't stick but the other was 13lbs. 30 minutes later we hooked into a hog. It peeled line for 2 minutes straight and eventually broke the 40lb leader. Soon after, we had another spring peel line and then gone. Next we picked up a 16 lb spring followed by a double header of pinks. The big pink was 9lbs. Action packed morning and perfect conditions.

Things have really picked up on the waterfront. Had 6 hook ups, but only landed 2, 9 and 11 lb springs, all on anchovy. One screamer broke my line and took off with my gear. Looked like most boats got fish today...finally. I didn't see any pinks, but I was mostly close to shore.

Limited out with 4 springs from 7 - 11am this morning. 13, 16 and pair of 17's. Caught the 16lb right at 10:20 at peak of eclipse. Second 17 at 11pm was all chewed up with fresh slash marks, either from earlier bout with seal or someones prop, but it was still hungry and made several good runs. Two on bait and two on spoons all close in at green can or McCauley at 60'. Went out to yellow buoy for hour but no pinks to be found.
