We handed it out to alot of people Im thinking 20 different familys , who never get or can afford fresh halibut.
My sincere respect for what you did

Slow out there today, picked up an 11 lb'er, and lost another to a seal. One long line release. Not much bait showing and the one we caught had an empty stomach. |

It's been slow for a long time?? This time last year I was bringing fish home every time I was out. Where are the bait fish and the salmon that follow or is this one of those off years? Come on Mother Nature, I have the first 2 weeks off in July |

Out today, for the first time this season, on the Flats. No luck on salmon but I did catch a 38 lb halibut while trolling a squirt along the bottom. That's the first time I've caught a halibut in local waters while trolling for salmon. As my wife would say, that's better than a sharp stick in the eye.

Congrats Tom. I'm still looking for my first incidental halibut while trolling for salmon. Not out this weekend. Just replaced the shift cable on the 9.9 Yamaha. Casing was split in several places and all full of rust. Just completed some painting on boat today. Repainted the lid on fish cleaning trough as old DFO stick on fish tape was falling apart and had lifted original paint in places. Scraped off the old tape and sanded down smooth, primed with aluminum primer and top coated with Krylon gloss white. Looks good. On holidays this week so hope to get out salmon one day and Elk Lake one day. |

| The Rock and I watched you land that halibut porcupine…tight squeeze in that net! We managed a few springs on Sunday ~ landed two around 13-14lbs and a third in the low twenties. Lost a 4th on the way in. Real scrappers, the big one took a good run at Craven but stopped short of his bow. I think we got a bit lucky as there weren't that many caught. Trolled mixed gear on the bottom - the usual Oak Bay routine and just happened on a few hungry ones. 'And just like Craven, we noticed that the fish had empty stomachs and we didn't see a lot of bait around. |

Yeah that was us...thanks for giving way when that fish was coming at ya. I didn't think he was going to stop and then he took a right turn and I managed to get some control. Surprised we didn't get sealed on one of those...they got us last sunday though. We'll have to pick up one of those high-tech deterrents that you guys use. |

Sunday afternoon started out flat calm bite came on around 2:30 saw at least four other boats playing fish when I banged an 18 pounder and almost got run over by a large yacht trolling who didn't seem to know what he was doing. Thought about going in but because it was so nice. I stayed out and picked up a 40 pound halibut at 3:30.
Monday afternoon flat calm again to start with birds everywhere totally unbelievable, put in four hours not even a sniff had the whole place to ourselves, go figure. |

I use the following Tides and Current web pages to attempt to fish at the right place at the right time. "Not always sucessful I may add" Why is slack on the current table different then the change between flood and epp of the tide table? When is the correct slack?

I interpret it as the tide tables tell you the height of the water and not much more... the current table tell you the direction of the currents (Flood and Ebb) , between current changes is when you get your "slake tide" or "tide change" as every one calls it.. I always here on the Radio guys asking when is tide change and usually some one replies and they always get it wrong cause their looking at the tide tables... you want to look at the current tables... I only look at the tide table twice a year ! Once in the spring when we launch our boat to know the tide/water height for the ramp and in October when we pull the boat out... that is all I use the tide tables for..
