Grabbed a small hali on while trolling for salmon in front of Otter, couple of two winters. Beautiful day on the water until we snagged something in front of the second rock, 200ft water depth only 150 on the rigger, didn't see any crab pots buoys around, lost a **** load of gear

Couple hours out in front of Sooke today this morning.
Slow for first hour, no bites in between Possession and Secretary, my hot spot of late. Moved toward the bluffs a bit, lots of action, though all smaller salmon than last week. Repeated double headers on the fly rods...fun time.
Spoon/no flasher slightly outperformed by glow flasher/glow white hootchie, but so much more fun not to have all that drag.
We were fishing at 130-150' in 140-160' depth.

Good report juandesooka, I'm hoping to get out tomorrow for the morning bite. That is if I'm not too hung over...lol. Was thinking about fishing over by Church rock and will put out the glow stuff.
And remember....Keep your tip up!!! |

Out yesterday off the harbour mouth to Secretary, lots of 20" class fish and the odd big one, we got lucky and got a 19lb, one that we didn't weigh that was in the 10-12 lb class on the fly rod and a couple 7-8lbers. All 120ft -140ft on the rigger in 120-160ft of water, all on bait today, purple haze and watermelon. Not sure it matters much though, Bulldog used Bug Eye flies the other day and they fished equal to the bait. Lots of fun on the fly rod, even those 20" are pulling line out.

Fished Beecher and Bedfords on Friday for a few hours. Managed 3 in the boat but random here and there. Nothing consistant. 2 crab traps with 1 soft shell dungee and 1 rock crab.
Fished in front of Sooke Harbour to bluffs on Sunday a.m. 1 keeper and 1 released. Pretty slow. Did not see any other fish caught. Lots of bait and fish on the sounder but no bite came on that I saw. 2 crab traps overflowing with crabs. Kept 8 hard Dungees, threw back 4 or 5 other keepers and a dozen just under size. No females in the traps.

Fished yesterday in Beecher Bay for half an hour first thing in the morning, bait showing but no fish. Ran to Secretary/Bluffs area - lots of boat fishing by mid-morning, maybe 20. Lots of small fish but very few of size, only saw 2 netted till we left at 2:10 p.m. Had only one good fish hit all day but got it ~14 lb., 1:00 p.m. at 165 feet on glow Coyote spoon. Tried Beecher Bay for another half hour on the way in, same as the morning - lots of bait but no fish biting.

| Agree wiht Rob H. Was slower for us by Secretary and Posession yesterday than it has been latley. Didn't have a keeper in the boat until 3pm when we landed one around 10 lb. Fished Bait all day. |

Fished Possession / Secretary Sat am. Slower than it has been lately, we caught nothing bigger than about 6 or 7 lbs. All hits at 140 ft in 160-170 ft on red glow flasher, white glow hootchie. Tried every other combo on other rod, flasher colours, hootchie colours, spoons, anchovies, nada...salmon only wanted that one combo. So much for the theory that winter springs will bite on whatever is put in front of them.
Salmon's bellies were full of small herring.
Beauty calm morning, warm, sometimes sunny.

Funny! That's the same day, combo, depth, place, and size of fish for us too.... go figure. It wasn't exactly "HOT" fishing though. Next time i hope that we find the combo that only catches 15lbs plus! |
