Thrifty Food's halibut commercials
This probably will only mean something to those of us on the island. Thrifty's has been hitting the radio with ads trumpeting the fact that they will be selling "sustainable" BC Halibut starting this week. On the radio they proudly state that their halibut are sustainable as each and every one is "line caught" and in the background you can hear a reel screaming. Too bad they just don't tell the truth about long liners and sport fishing. There that's my rant.

The Times Colinist had a full page add yesterday with pictures of 4 commercial longline snaps on circle hooks, and a pic of commercial guys out of Uci! The reel screaming is a bit ironic.

A couple of days ago I saw an ad from QFC advertising halibut. Thought I'd stop and get some freshly caught halibut for dinner. So, I go to the fish counter and what do I see? A sign ,"Previously Frozen Alaskan Wild Halibut". After looking at it I wondered what year it was previously frozen!
