This is amazing. I wondered why the fish farm lobbyists have been largely missing from the debate in Canada recently. They are panicked and fighting in the USA. Unlike our governments and corporate press, the USA may not protect this industry if they threaten pacific salmon as the USA has spent many billions on restoring Pacific salmon. In the USA Pacific salmon are considered an asset not a nuisance getting in the way of Atlantic Salmon Farm Corporations Profits.

They don’t have any Atlantic Farms in Alaska and only a few in Washington. Those could be gone in a heartbeat and all it would take is a ban on importing Farmed Atlantic Salmon from Canada and this industry is dead. No wonder our governments have been trying so hard to suppress the truth with gag legislation and all the industries well paid spin doctors and lobbyists have been mostly absent from the debate in Canada the last few days. This is not where the battle is and it is one the industry may just lose. OK perhaps not, but still.

I say bring campbell back to center stage and prosecute the SOB. There WAS a moratorium on fish farming before 2001. I honestly don't know how the BC government had the right to make the decision to allow private enterprise to go hog wild before doing proper studies on what the potential repercussion(s) could be...

Excellent article! Thanks for posting that Rockfish.

I'll say it again - Alex should be nominated for the 'Order of Canada'!

Thanks for the links, Rocky. THIS IS GREAT NEWS! If it's in the S.T. I would think Ms. Clark had phone calls. Could be a vote-getter for Obama's campaign, too: International punch-up (Stevie drops his mouth-guard - oops) over Canadian environmental ignorance - sweet!

I so want to see the US lead this charge and put the pressure right where it should be.
