    Small Creek Steel

Day before yest, morning broke to our crew fumbling about, perusing gear, and wondering just what fish to chase for the day - cutts or chrome? Deferring to the Natural's insistance that a little known coastal creek should be holding some chrome NOW, we selected the lightest of trout rods, and set off to adventure.
The hour long hike through the jungle was indeed tough on this old boy's legs, but managed to almost keep up with both the younger lads, eventually breaking through the dog-hair to a sweet, gin clear little gem of a creek that you could damn near jump across (Steelies? Here? Hmmmm...) Buddy's FIRST cast into the pristine flow recieved a SAVAGE strike, and near 3 feet of chrome erupted from the foot deep lie! A GREAT battle commenced as the little spinning reel squealed 6 lb test out much faster than it was designed for! This was the precurser to an excellent fishery!! A total of 15 chromers (2 bearing sea-lice!!) came to hand over the course of the afternoon, in a setting so pretty it was almost magical! No sign another had ever been there. AWESOME!!
My partner lucked out on the monster for the day, a twenty minute tussle with 12 pounds of wild buck, so chrome the fins were damn near translucent! Took loads of pix, and will eventually put a few up (those that DON'T clearly show the background ) Great comraderie, GREAT fishing in a surealistic postcard! Life simply doesn't get any better!
The hike out I was seriously wondering if the ol' ticker was going to give out, and when the waders got pulled off (complete with a new vent in the left leg), it looked like I'd just stepped out of the shower - fully clothed that is! The savagry of the hike was rapidly forgotten, as we shared tales of the GREAT fish we had just been given the opportunity to play. An opportunity hard earned, but worth every pain of my now aching muscles!
Hope you're all having a GOOD one today, and if not, then SOON!

    Hey DinkFloat!
Ya think? No need to BS here laddy, jus' telling it like it is! Too bad you gotta BEEK and BELITTLE about what you don't know, but if it makes ya feel better, or pampers your obvious feelings of inadequacy, FILL YER BOOTS

River Hunter, NO-ONE ever pries the locale outta me
And yes, we covered nearly the entire lower section, have to, the pools are far and few. Caught them just right THIS time. Perhaps I should have posted about the 3 nightmare trips into there when no fins were about! Little gems is absolutely right. Something the masses would surely over-run and destroy in short order, thus the secrecy!
