Surely the use of a gaff as a "catch and release" device to remove and/or knock out the hook are entirely different from using it to actually land the fish.
It seems to make a lot of sense to use...
I am getting this same message.
It is Google that has labelled this site as infected with badware. Firefox is using the same database. No idea if this is true or not but this site insists Google...
Tragedy! But we tried and we did not quietly acquiesce. One day perhaps the Cohen Commission recommendations will be implemented and the "Department of Salmon Feed lot Promotion" will be split into a...
Unbelievable KK!! Given the relatively few number of years I have left on this planet, even if I fish 100 days a year from now on, I will never be able to emulate catches like that. Totally...
Did not fish in the Derby but instead took out two old friends from Australia whom I had not seen for 37 years!! Is that a record?
Anyway fished 10-2 pm and did not start well. Hooked up on...
Lampreys were very popular fare in England in olden times. Indeed Henry the 1st is said to have died from eating a "surfeit of lampreys" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_I_of_England#Death.2C_1135...
Good on you RCA!
I too got a huge amount of information, help and guidance plus some encouragement from the good members of this forum when I bought my first boat for the chuck three years ago. (I...
The one winter I had braid one side and wire the other I got the same ratio as RCA. About 4:1 in favour of the wire. I was not using a box at the time (although I have one installed and play with it...
And for those that want to know what the hell is a hair rig (and what baits to use for carp), just go search for some UK carp fishing sites. You would be stunned at the size of some of the carp in...
Kind of odd rule that. It ought not to matter provided the number of fish taken do not exceed the number allowed per license on board. Usually an unlicensed person on board is a non-fisher or newbie...
Seafever,
Your refurbished CW lures look neat anyway. I hope they look attractive to the fish too!:o
Here is a picture of my CW lure. Similar design to yours - just a different colour and...
There is a professional psychologist down in Spokane, Washington called Dr. Paul Quinnett who has written a book devoted to the psychology of fishing. It is called "Pavlov's Trout". He is a mad keen...
LOL Roy!
I have a Charlie White "The Lure" still in its packet. Don't think I will ever use it as it may have collector value by now.:)
I am using a Peetz reel. Caught the fish in question on it!...
Go read this great story folks. It is not just me who gets braid break offs on rough pulleys!!
http://www.sportfishingbc.com/forum/showthread.php?23864-Sweet-go-pro-footage-and-story!
Fantastic story. I look forward to the pictures.
I just had a debate with a few people on this thread

about how bad...
Maybe it was....maybe it wasn't.
However I have had so much help and advice and guidance from the good folks on this forum since I started the ocean trolling game three years ago, if I can help...
Fished from 6:45 until 2:45 today and had an interesting day. Fished the Trap with the usual anchovy gear for a couple of hours but no dice. Then moved along to Beechy and tried there for another...
Hey Seafever,
You were much more careful and diligent than I was.
That was and is the way to go no doubt. Just slapping on braid onto downwriggers that have long been used with wire is asking for...
Not sure what you mean by fairleads. I checked on the web and maybe you are referring to the pulley wheel housing (the two plastic plates on either side of the wheels?). Anyway mine are burred,...
Yep, like I said I did not use Power Pro. It was something else and probably cheap. Maybe that was my mistake?
Also the reason other guys don't get my problem is they all have much nicer, newer,...
Yes, I do have trim tabs. I had not thought of that one so I will check it out. I don't think the cable/braid comes into contact with the tabs except maybe on sharp turns. However, when dropping and...
GDW - sorry if I misinterpreted your post. I was taking my cue from my own experience. I did not use Powerpro, but I don't remember exactly what it was. Could be the make was the issue but now I'm...
GDW is right. Do not be foolish like I was and put braid onto older downriggers that have been run with wire for a long time. The pulley wheels get scuffed or grooved and the edges are burred/rough...
Saw that just now as well TC. It is a step in the right direction, but it's not over yet.
The price of the freedom of our waterways and coast from a monumental bitumen flavoured disaster is eternal...
