I agree that 10 minutes steaming is sufficient. Their shells are naturally a little tougher than the shells of Dungeness.
Has anyone had success using this lure? Do you fish it like a plug with no flasher or like a hootchie with a flasher?
Thanks a lot H/L and others! The pictures are great and I got just what I needed! I had checked on the search aspect of this blog for cut plug herring but got a negative reply. Thanks again guys!
I tried that route. the video shows the roll only, NOT how to tie it!
I could not find any instructions on google, that is why I am asking!
How do you guys rig your cut plug herring? There are several variations in inserting the hooks, and I am confused!
Would appreciate any advice. Thanks!
He was using the ultra violet purple, but at Trotac they have a green one and a colourless one also.
Has anybody tried this new style flasher? My buddy had one and although we had the same baits, he out fished me 3:1. I might try it but they are pricey around $49.They just clip on over the...
Leader length was navel to the deck. The spoons were advertised as having UV glow properties, perhaps that was what peeled off.
I used these spoons for the first time at Ferrer point Nootka sound
yesterday and they were actively hooking both Coho & Spring salmon.
However, I was disappointed that after awhile the paper...
We fished Ferrer point Wednesday but were blown off by the wind.
Went back down to Birdwood which was hot with Coho and Small springs.
Eventually, we were able to limit out on legal size springs...
Done. But will the Gov't pay any attention?
I had a similar experience here in Victoria. Many large females, several with barnacles, and a few undersizes males.I attribute it to the area being previously fished by commercial crabbers.
These spoons are also available at $3.99 US$ from Cabelas but they do not show them online. 24 hrs phone is 1-800-237-4444. Item # is

Hello Lefty! I stayed at Chinootka Lodge. They were very helpful in directing us where to fish and when. There is a lot to learn about local knowledge!
Spring bite times were short, and I...
I would not worry about changing the spoon action. DC Reid suggests using two spoons in tandem. I have used this successfully on pinks and coho. I even caught dogfish on this setup.
No! We were skunked at Clover Pt.and so we went to McCauley Pt.where we were also skunked except for a nice Ling Cod,that I had to return!
How deep were you CBY? I was there too, but no bites!
Went to Church, but we were NOT blessed! Fog came in about !0:30,so we went back to Pedder, and then albert head. No luck! Poor Crabbing too, just females! Wound up at the Monkey Tree, where life...
I appreciate our Food Saver! Not only for fish but also for other food. It preserves the freshness well. Costco, london drugs and Walmart all sell them.
Ahoy, Fellas! What time of day do you usually get out on the water?
Do you try to hit high tide? Does current affect your fishing time?
Thanks!
CBY, where were you? How deep? What gear? Thanks!
We all agree, it is finding the fish at their bite time. As a kid in Campbell River 1943,( a pink year!) I caught more fish in a week than I do now in a year! Because there were a lot of salmon...
Nice fish, tailspin! How deep were you? What lure? Thanks.
Are you in Victoria? I used Colin at Top Stitch upholstery & I am very pleased with his work. He came down to my boat measured it up and quoted me a very fair price depending on what material &...
