12' Spingbok when I was a kid, which I rowed everywhere, cause my dad thought it built character. Caught lots of fish though, esp. coho around Gabriola (early 70's)
30' Gaff ketch
15' Duroboat w/ 30 hp Yammy tiller. That thing would go anywhere, take anything, use almost no gas, and very stable. The kids still wish we had it. Me too on some days.
20' Glasply w/ 190 BMW. Great engine, not for boats. An unhappy experience.
Now, a '95 23 Hourston sedan, 290 volvo duoprop, 9.9 kicker, scotty electrics, hauler, all the good stuff. Great cabin to keep warm and dry crossing the strait, lots of room in the back for fishing. Hourston builds great boats.
The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.
