yes, I used to fish that one when I lived up there - decent for rainbow/cutts, but yes, ideally need a boat. You would have a decent shot if you take the trail on the southeast end and walk up past the creek to the rocky area. Otherwise, you can launch on either the north or south ends (don't recall if you can launch a boat/trailer thou - north side if any). I haven't caught anything big - think 16" was the biggest - I preferred the east edge of the lake all up and down.
If you have a 4x4 and access is still open through Piggott Main, I'd consider Regan Lake as well - was by far my favorite. Not me personally, but I know there have been trout up to 2-3lb taken out of there - I usually got them in the 11-14" range - powerbait on bottom or trolled fly.
