Fished Pedder and Whirl Bay today for winters. Several shakers and one that popped the pin but did not hook up. Forecasted Gale did not materialize. Very nice conditions. Lots of bait in Pedder. Not so much in Whirl Bay. Fished mostly between 125 and 150 feet on the downrigger.

Fished Bedfords and beecher bay today, between 3-dark 137 feet in 155 feet water, glow green/white hootchie red flasher got one winter about 9 pounds and another about 4-5 pounds. one other popped the rigger.
Does anyone know a way to reduce the number of bottom fish hooked when winter fishing? i caught 5 rockfish today, and only 3 lived.

Sooke Harbour Derby is on, I see about a dozen fish on the leaderboard, all feeder springs, up to 12 pounds. No chum caught yet.
Anyone fishing in this derby on here? Are you targeting chum and having no luck? Or is everyone just targeting springs deep?
If you had $25 and some time on your hands, might be a good bet to stand below the blue bridge with a buzz bomb...could probably beat 12 pounds if there's still any chum around. Better check the regs on snagging first though.

Was out Beecher Bay Today, fished 3.5 hours this afternoon, no bites Nice day though
