We need bigger fines for dumping into streams

Haha don't get my started. The important thing to look at in this article is that again under the ministry of environment of bc there is no protection. You see how before 2010 dfo was really involved. Then here comes Stephen Harper and boom things changed. We went from big federal fines to now little municipal fines and slaps on wrists. Look at Shawnigan Creek Vancouver Island perfect example. I am sure there are many others. We are going to see more and more of this until Trudeau stops doing his hair and repeals bill 38 like he said he would do.

It seemed encouraging when Trudeau was elected that things were going to change for the better on the environmental front. Unfortunately so far it seems like the same old, same old.

Agreed @Big_Shank, $1,500 fine for a company that has had repeat offences for dumping this harmful pollution into the streams is not going to send any sort of message that this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated. The only way businesses (and individuals) are going to change their harmful practices is if there are serious consequences for their illegal actions. Thanks to weakened enviro laws and lack of enforcement and fines this sort of behaviour will most likely continue to go on for some time, however.
