Final marine salmon seasons set for 2009-10

Here are the preliminary saltwater salmon fishing seasons for 2009-2010:

ILWACO (AREA 1): Open June 28-Sept. 30 two salmon daily limit and only one may be a chinook; release wild coho. Season may close earlier if quota of 88,200 hatchery coho or remainder of 5,400 chinook is achieved. Please refer to the regulation pamphlet for more details.

WESTPORT (AREA 2): Open June 28-July 23 on Sundays to Thursdays only, and open daily July 26-Sept. 20 with two salmon daily limit and only one may be a chinook, plus one additional pink; release wild coho. Season may close earlier if quota of 65,270 hatchery coho or 11,850 chinook is achieved. Please refer to the regulation pamphlet for more details.

Area 2-1 (east of a line from Cape Shoalwater to Leadbetter Point): Open July 1-31 concurrent with the ocean (Area 2) is open for salmon. Open Aug. 1-15 with daily limit of six salmon and only two adult fish may be retained; barbed hooks allowed. Open Aug. 16-Jan. 31 with six salmon daily limit and only three adult fish may be retained and up to two may be adult chinook; release chum and barbed hooks allowed. Area 2-2 (west of Buoy 13 line): Closed. Area 2-2 (east of Buoy 13 line): Open Sept. 16-Nov. 30 with two salmon daily limit; released chinook and chum. Ocean Shores Boat Basin: Open Aug. 16-Jan. 31 with six salmon daily limit, no more than four may be adult salmon; barbed hooks allowed, night closures and anti-snagging rule in effect.

LA PUSH (AREA 3): Open June 27-July 17 on Tuesdays to Saturdays only, and open daily July 18-Sept. 20 with two salmon daily limit and only one may be a chinook, plus two additional pinks; release wild coho. Season may close earlier if quota of 4,480 hatchery coho or remainder of 950 chinook is achieved. Please refer to the regulation pamphlet for more details.

La Push late season fishery: Open Sept. 26-Oct. 11 with daily limit of two salmon plus two additional pinks and only one may be a chinook; release wild coho. NEAH BAY (AREA 4 west of Bonilla-Tatoosh line): Open June 27-July 17 on Tuesdays through Saturdays only with two salmon daily limit, plus two additional pinks and only one may be a chinook; release wild coho. Open daily July 18-Sept. 20 with two salmon daily limit, plus two additional pinks and only one may be a chinook; release wild coho; Aug. 1-Sept. 20, released wild chum. NEAH BAY (AREA 4 east of Bonilla-Tatoosh line): Open June 27-July 17 on Tuesdays through Saturdays only with two salmon daily limit, plus two additional pinks and only one may be a chinook; release wild coho. Open daily July 18-31 with two salmon daily limit, plus two additional pinks and only one may be a chinook; release wild coho. Season may close earlier if quota of 18,350 hatchery coho or 2,200 chinook is achieved for all of Area 4.

SEKIU (AREA 5): Closed May 1-June 30. Open July 1-Aug 15 for hatchery chinook with two salmon daily limit, plus two additional pinks; release wild chinook and coho and chum. Open Aug 16-Sept. 18 with two salmon daily limit, plus two additional pinks; release chinook, chum and wild coho. Open Sept. 19-30 with two salmon daily limit; release chinook and chum. Open Oct. 1-15 with two salmon daily limit no more than one chinook. Closed Oct. 16-Nov. 30 and Dec. 1-Feb. 12. Open Feb. 13-April 10 with one chinook daily. Closed April 11-30.

PORT ANGELES (AREA 6): Closed May 1-June 30. Open July 1-Aug. 15 with two salmon, plus two additional pinks; release wild chinook, wild coho and all chum; released all chinook east of Ediz Hook. Open Aug. 16-Sept. 30 with two salmon daily, plus two additional pinks; release chinook, chum and wild coho. Open Oct. 1 -31 with two salmon daily, and no more than one chinook. Closed Nov. 1-Feb. 12. Open Feb. 13-April 10 with one chinook daily. Closed April 11-30. There will be closures at certain periods around Freshwater Bay, Port Angeles Harbor, Sequim Bay, Discovery Bay and Dungeness Bay. Please refer to the regulation pamphlet for details.

SAN JUAN ISLANDS (AREA 7): Closed May 1-June 30. Open July 1-July 31 with two salmon daily, plus two additional pinks and only one may be a chinook. Open Aug. 1-Sept. 30 with two salmon daily, plus two additional pinks and only one may be a chinook; release chum and wild coho. Open Oct. 1-31 with two salmon daily and only one may be a chinook. Closed Nov. 1-30. Open Dec. 1- April 30 with two salmon daily release wild chinook. There will be closures at certain periods around southern Rosario Strait/eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca, Bellingham Bay, Samish Bay and the Yellow and Low Islands. DECEPTION PASS AND SKAGIT BAY (AREA 8-1): Closed May 1-July 31. Open Aug 1-Sept. 30 two salmon, plus two additional pinks and release chinook. Closed Oct. 1-31, except Oak Harbor special fishery open Oct. 1-31 with a coho daily limit. Open Nov. 1-April 30 two salmon and release wild chinook.

PORTS SUSAN AND GARDNER (AREA 8-2): Closed May 1-July 31, except Tulalip Bay terminal fishery open June 19 (closed June 20) and June 21-Sept. 7 from Fridays to Sundays at noon, two salmon daily limit, plus two additional pinks. Open Aug. 1-Sept. 30 with two salmon daily limits, plus two additional pinks and release chinook; Tulalip Bay terminal fishery also open Sept. 12-27 on Saturdays and Sundays only with two salmon daily limit, plus two additional pink. Closed Oct. 1-31, except for special South Marine Area 8-2 fishery with a two salmon daily limit and release chinook. Open Nov. 1-April 30 two salmon daily limit and release wild chinook. ADMIRALTY INLET-NORTH PUGET SOUND (AREA 9): Closed May 1-July 15. Open July 16-Aug. 31, two salmon plus two additional pinks; release wild chinook and chum. Open Sept. 1-15, two salmon daily limit plus two additional pinks; release chinook and chum. Open Sept. 16-30 two salmon daily limit plus two pinks; release chinook and chum. Open Oct. 1-31, two salmon daily limit and release chinook. Open Nov. 1-30, two salmon daily limit and release wild chinook. Closed Dec. 1-Jan. 15. Open Jan. 16-April 15, two salmon daily limit and release wild chinook. Closed April 16-30. Edmonds Fishing Pier is open year-round with two salmon daily limit and only one may be a chinook; release chum Aug. 1-Sept. 30. Daily limit may include two additional pinks From. July 1-Sept. 30. Hood Canal closures in waters of Area 9 south of line from Foulweather Bluff to Olele Point from July 16-Aug. 15. Please refer to the regulation pamphlet for details.

CENTRAL PUGET SOUND (AREA 10): Closed May 1-31. Open June 1-30, salmon catch and release only. Open July 1-15, two salmon daily limit plus two additional pinks and release chinook. Open July 16-Aug. 31, two salmon daily limit plus two additional pinks; release wild chinook and chum starting Aug. 1. Open Sept. 1-30, two salmon daily limit plus two additional pinks; release chinook and chum through Sept. 15. Open Oct. 1-Jan. 31, two salmon daily limit and release wild chinook. Closed Feb. 1-April 30.

Inner-Elliott Bay fishery: Open July 3-Aug. 24 on Fridays to Mondays only, two salmon daily limit, plus two additional pinks; release chum Aug. 1-Sept. 15. East Duwamish waterway: July 1-Oct. 31 from 1st Ave. South Bridge downstream to an east-west line through S.W. Hanford St. on Harbor Island (night closure, unlawful to use forage fish jig gear, and anti snagging rule in effect, and only salmon hooked inside the mouth may be retained). Terminal 86, Seacrest, Waterman, Bremerton, Boardwalk and Illahee piers are open year-round, two salmon daily limit and only one may be a chinook; daily limits may include two additional pinks from July 1-Sept. 30.

Sinclair Inlet fishery: Open July 1-Sept. 30, two salmon daily limit, plus two additional pinks, released unmarked chinook and release chum Aug. 1-Sept. 15. There will be closures at certain periods around Agate Pass, Shilshole Bay, parts of Elliott Bay. Please refer to the regulation pamphlet for details.

SOUTH CENTRAL PUGET SOUND (AREA 11): Closed May 1-31. Open 1-30 with two salmon daily limit and release wild chinook. Open July 1-Sept. 30 with two salmon daily limit plus two additional pinks and release wild chinook. Open Oct. 1-31 two salmon daily limit. Open Nov. 1-Dec. 31 with two salmon daily limit and no more than one chinook. Closed Jan. 1-31. Open Feb. 1-April 30, two salmon daily limit and release wild chinook. Dash Point, Les Davis, Des Moines, Redondo and Point Defiance Park Boathouse piers open year-round, two salmon daily limits and only one may be a chinook; daily limit may include two additional pinks from July 1-Sept. 30. Commencement Bay closed to salmon fishing June 1-July 31. Please refer to the regulation pamphlet for details.

HOOD CANAL (AREA 12): Entire area closed May 1-June 30. Open south of Ayock Point July 1-Oct. 15 with four salmon daily limit and only two may be chinook; release chum. Open north of Ayock Point July 1-Aug. 31 and Sept. 1-Oct. 15 with four coho only daily limit. Entire area open Oct. 16-Dec. 31 with four salmon daily limit and only one may be a chinook. Entire area closed Jan. 1-31. Entire area open Feb. 1-April 30 with two salmon daily limit and released wild chinook.

Hoodsport Hatchery fishery: Open July 1-Dec. 31 with four salmon daily limit and only two may be a chinook greater than 24 inches; release chum July 1-Oct. 15. Quilcene/Dabob Bay coho fishery: Open Aug. 16-31 with a four coho daily limit. Please refer to the regulation pamphlet for details.

SOUTHERN PUGET SOUND (AREA 13): Open May 1-June 30 two salmon daily limit and release wild chinook. Open July 1-Sept. 30 two salmon daily limit and release wild chinook and wild coho. Open Oct. 1-31 two salmon daily limit and release wild coho. Open Nov. 1 — Dec. 31 two salmon daily limit and no more than one chinook. Open Jan. 1-31 with one salmon daily limit. Closed Feb. 1-28. Open March 1-April 30 with one salmon daily limit. Fox Island Fishing pier open year-round with two salmon daily limit and no more than one chinook; released wild coho From July 1-Oct. 31. There will be closures and gear restrictions at certain periods around Minter Creek mouth and Budd Inlet. Please refer to the regulation pamphlet for details.
