Victoria 2014 Reports

Hour at the flats, hour at constance, hour at Clover.... no bites. Some interesting looking stuff on the sounder at constance and big bait ball off clover... Crabbing was slower that a week ago with only two keepers (picked through over 20 for our 8 last week)

There was a double eagle type boat at constance that appeared to be unable to go into forward and looked like he was setting out to reverse back in to esquimalt.... The guys were grinning away and did not signal for help... eventually it looked like he got things sorted out and was able to go into forward... that would be a heinous reverse journey!

Hope others had better luck during the calm spell today.

Slow for sure, hooked 2 small springs in a 2.5 hr trip.
released one and bonked a 5lb for dinner.
Crabbing decent with 4 good size males, released a few as well.

There are some nice feeders around. Nice 11½ pounder and a 6, 150' of water, east of Brotchie, 85' on the downrigger. Small herring in an old (clear) Super Minnow Teaser, short leader 35", Madi flasher. Tried a new glow head and a rainbow head, not a nibble.

Great first post Cataline. Thanks for the detailed report. That 11.5 lb. feeder is a nice fish for this time of year.Oh,and
welcome to the forum!

Brotchie to the flag pole today in about 185'. Headed out about 830 and got off the water about 1030. Fishing alone and had 2 come off the rigger and 3 fish on. Lost the first two as I was busy tending the other lines. May need to go back to a single line out?? Both felt like nice fish. Got sealed on the third. Only had a head make it back to the boat. Anchovies seemed to win over plastic. Nothing for the dinner table but great day on the water!!

Tomorrow morning looks calm and sunny... any one been out? Trying to decide between Pedder, Sooke or the Waterfront. Last weekend a brief drift for Hali off Oak Bay was unproductive but the crabbing was exceptional.

Frostbite derby tomorrow at the waterfront. Probably 50 boats from clover, to the can and Albert head. Does that help with your decision? ;)
