Tongue weight and total towing weight?

When towing my boat I've found it tows better with full tanks of fuel. It's a bit bouncy on the ball when towing with empty tanks. So as mentioned by some here, better to have a bit more tongue weight than not enough in most cases. Might be able just move some of your belongings up to the front of your boat to help make a difference. I have an aluminum toolbox with a few items in it and my spare tire mounted at the front of my boat trailer and it helps create a bit of weight on the hitch also. It's not too good having the coupler bounce on the ball or pulling upward on the ball when going over frost heaves, etc... You want to have enough weight on it so the underside of the top of coupler stays in contact with the top of the ball and always has a bit of downward force on the ball, even when going over rough spots in the road...
