Hey Wally,

I'll be at the same derby this week-end. Been trying to get info all over but not much going on. Even Porlier seems to be quiet... Will have to cover lots of water but the tides are good. See you out there, I'll be on the Highriser.

CHARTERS

Phase two of the Silva Bay Salmon Series is sponsored by Mainland Bobcat, and runs dawn until 9 PM Saturday, June 12th and dawn until noon on June 13th. All weigh-ins are at Silva Bay Marina, and anglers may weigh fish from 9 AM until 9PM on Saturday, and 9 AM until noon on Sunday. Awards are on the lower waterfront deck at Silva Bay Marina at 1 PM Sunday. Mainland Bobcat provides incredible draw prizes in addition to the $1,500 First Prize and this event brings a lot of fishers to Gabriola. Tickets are $25 per rod, and are available at Silva Bay Marina, Pages Resort and Marina, The Boatel, Village Paint and Hardware, and Silver Blue Charters. Chinook fishing dramatically improved over the weekend—Predator and Seair both excelled on day-long charters Saturday. Fish were found from the Grande to the tip of Whalebone and depth ranged from 85 feet to bottom bumping in 150 feet of water. Lures of interest include whole or strip baits in green/chartreuse or clear green scale Rhys Davis teasers, Coyote or Gypsy spoons in green/white, Kripple K spoons, black/white or glow white or hoochies in J-79 or green/white glow splatterback. In a surprise move, D.F.O. opened hatchery coho for retention June 1st in Area 17. There is a limit of two per person per day. Hopefully some coho will show in the Gulf this summer as they are big fun to catch! Prawning remains mediocre around the Flat Tops—expect 20 to 30 per trap. Tuna cat food fished at 350 feet remains the best approach. GOOD FISHING!
