Three major rivers that flow out of Canada into Southeast Alaska could provide a combined one billion dollars in value for tourism and fisheries on this side of the border over the next three decades. That’s one of the findings in a new study commissioned by a group seeking to highlight potential impacts to those rivers from the mining industry in British Columbia.

Unfortunaley, Our Govenments don't give a dam about recreational fishings huge contribution to our economy. Our govts are more concerned about making Canada appear to be Investment freindly to foreign corporations wanting to exploit our resources. They are still stuck in the mentality from the 1800's that Canada's economy is totally dependant on resource extraction. It's high time they realized we're actually in the 21'st century and our economy needs to be diversified to be healthy and strong.

Unbelievable, how our govts keep promoting mining when we have so many mining travesties decimating fish bearing watersheds with their long standing pollutants leaching into our rivers. The Canadian taxpayers are left with the the cleanup bills for decades old closed mines that continue to pollute. Taxpayers will be paying billions in cleanup bills for bankrupt mines, while our govt keeps promoting opening new mines. How can any new mine be green lighted without massive environmental cleanup bonds being posted before any mine opens. All these mines end up being is a big black hole for tax payers to subsidize their operation. Instead of these mines paying their rightful share for environmental protection they rape our Canadian resources, pocket the profits, then close, leaving taxpayers with the massive clean up bill. How can the government pretend this is a good business model to promote, when taxpayers are paying far more for remediation than these businesses are contributing to the economy. Canadian taxpayers are in reality subsidizing these pitiful excuses for corporate citizens to the tune of billions of dollars. It's time to stop subsidizing these environmental destroying polluters. Mining corporations should have to pay for their own industries cleanup, not the taxpayers.

Not just our government. Ever watch that show from Alaska, "Bering Sea Gold"! And what about all those "Gold Rush" episodes filmed mostly in Canada that follow American gold miners in Canada, South America and Oregon?
Pretty sad!

Thanks for the info AA. Petition signed. Wow close to 25,000 signatures. That's a pretty impressive number of people disgusted by this travesty.

Complete BS. Taypayers left holding the bag again. I guess all those political contributions to the Liberals paid off big time. Why don't they just call those corporate "donations" what they really are "pay offs".

F'n BS is right. Business as usual for the Lieberals. Looking after the publics best interests? Yeah... right.
