Shaw services

Anyone who is currently getting the "promotional deal" from Shaw, keep an eye on your bill.
The deal is only good for one year, and although i've talked to them twice they have no interest in extending the promo pricing past the one year mark.

It's interesting to see that are currently running a newspaper special for new customers
for $79.95 for 6 months on the same bundle.

My bill runs around $95.00 with the promo discount( for 3 services.)
regular price was $143.95

rs...

That is for.......home phone, internet and TV? What TV Package is it in the 'bundle'? Any long distance or anything special about the phone? What internet 'service' is it as they have a few?

They would not budge. A-Holes.....Going to have to call Telus. As my friend just signed up with them on the $15-$15-$15 package and got a free X-Box with a one year contract.

Correct, i would have to look at the bill, believe it's tier 3 cable...
no long distance, high speed internet.

Did a little more research on Telus
home services last night.

So here's what i ended up getting,

1.Telus land line with call display and 200 L.D. minutes
with existing phone number.

2.Telus high speed internet 15 mbs capability.

3.Optik T.V. with HD sports & lifestyle package.

4.1 Free PVR ,1 free digital box

$70 month for 1st year, $110 after that on a 3 year deal.

we'll see how it goes when it starts up April 01.

Read the small print....
Its a free PVR rental on a 3 year deal. Its on the back page if you stop service you have to pay the 3 year rental out.
There 145 channels are repeated channels. They are the same channels Shaw gives you in their Basic HD package.
There High Speed Internet is as fast as Shaws High Speed Light.

So what I did was droped teirs 1-3 as all the channels are repeated in HD except the Food Network. Which is comming soon.
I changed to High Speed Lite and the basic phone with caller ID and voice mail and 4 cent LD.
I still get all the games and WFN.
$116 taxs in and no contract... plus I get to use my PVR which I own that Shaw gave me. Not a 3 year rental.

At this point, if you want all phone, internet and T.V. there are only 2 player's.
i have been with Shaw for 20 years and they don't do me any favors.
at the end of the term with Telus i'm hoping there will be other options available.

If your a long time cust. of Shaw or Telus conact the loyalty dept. they seem to more willing to bend We just purchased a new HD TV last boxing day so I'm looking for a good deal also, so far as I can see they're all wolves in the same sheeps clothing .they all seem to let u take the bait, let u swim around then reel you in for a longer term @ more $$$$.I'll be fallowing this thread so maybe we gang up & get a group rate of Course they'll have to throw WFN in for free LOL

This situation makes me laugh at the dip-**** move I made a few years back. It always bothered me that Rogers then Shaw had a monopoly on cable and worse that the CRCT was in bed with them. So, after my last skirmish with Shaw I'd had enough and vowed I'd get back at them; I made the decision to get satellite TV! 'That'll fix them peckers...' I said to myself. So goes down to my local Radio Shack and after learning that Bell was a Quebec outfit - damn separatist's! - I settled on Star Choice. (again... 'dat'll fix dem' peckers!')

Wasn't 2 months later I was bragging to my buddy about how badly I'd just boot-fooked Shaw and (laughing very hard) he told me that Shaw owned Star Choice.

one thing going for shaw is at least it's relatively easy to get someone on the phone. my experience is that telus customer support can be brutal... and you don't have the face to face option (which is available in vic at least).

my game so far has been to sign up for tv, and then cancel it... they then phone you back and offer you 6 months at a discounted price. its worked twice so far... but i don't mind going without the tube for a bit.

I am on a 3 year telus contract for the "free" dell laptop 2.5 years ago ... will be a question whether the laptop outlasts the promotion, the way it's going. Beware the 3-year contract, the market can change a lot in that time! If you do go telus, make sure you ask about rates once in a while ... if rates drop, you may be eligible, but they don't tell you unless you ask, and it isn't applied retroactively!

The magic time limit with shaw is apparently 6 weeks ... 6 weeks after you leave them, you become a new customer again and are eligible for the promo deals again. Just like banks, they only give the good stuff to new customers....no such thing as "loyalty" programs as far as I can tell. We used to "seasonally disconnect" with shaw ... as soon as canucks out of the playoffs cancel cable, hook up again in Oct. But now they charge a fee to do this. On the other hand, if you instead cancel and restart, there is no fee and you're eligible for the new promo deals ... no-brainer there.

So, play them against each other to continually get the best deal.

I ran my loyalty deal out with Shaw, and they were not interested in discussing any kind of extension.

You still signed the contract with the devil. Nothing is free with Telus. I called them today and you can have a Free Rental PVR when you sign up based on 3 years. But they still own it. And after your contract is up you will also be paying a rental fee for the PVR on top of your increased rate plan.

That Sucks...

I haven't signed anything yet, but at the end of it all
if i'm not happy i can switch back.

one is no better than the other in my opinion, neither one gives a $hit about you ,they just want your money !

Yea little hawk I know what u mean I also had it with the Cable guy so I bought an old style dish with A hacked reciever 1st the network stations dissapeared then I was left with the outdoor network the gold prospectors ch. , the Porno ch. sans sound & yes a station with Charely Heston rambling night/day about the Lord.Alas Finally the dish went digital & i caved in & got cable again.

A couple of months back I got a call from Shaw asking about my services, at that time, cable was and still is the only service I have of theirs. They offered me a deal on my phone and internet which I declined. I hate the bastards, of all the bills I receive every month, theirs is the one I hate the most. They go deeper and deeper every year into the pocket, but I don't see any better programming on my t.v. I then called Telus and told them of the offer about my internet connection, presently I'm paying about $35. Shaw offered it for $10 for the first year and $20 for the second year, that's a difference of $480. Telus matched it with no hesitation. That's serious cash, I don't mine getting screwed a little, but I would like some kissing to go along with it.
