Shaft length

Just read a local ad for a brand new 115 EXLPTO Optimax for $5999(msrp $11,292).
What are people's thoughts on buying and storing this motor until the right older hull comes along?
Can I make the 25" shaft "work" on pretty well any boat? Seems like a good deal. I'm not afraid of fibreglass projects, and installing electronics, but I would rather have new power for any used boat, since I'm not much of a marine mechanic.

The only thing I would say about buying a new motor and storing it is you would be wasting the warranty. I know where this motor is for sale, i'm curious about the extra costs. i'm pretty sure there is a freight cost tacked on then all the takes etc.
