Scotty Downrigger Bracket For 3" Pipe

Hey guys,

I'm looking to build a bracket to clamp on to 3" aluminum pipe near the stern of my boat. I do not believe Scotty sells anything to adjust this big. I have some ideas of what I'm going to do but thought I'd ask here quickly to see if anyone has built anything like this or has any suggestions before I get started. Thanks!

Thick aluminum plate and U bolts. Thick aluminum, so you could countersink the nuts.
