Recreational Salmon Diet Monitoring Program?

I see your points, anything to help the species and sport fishing industry is a great idea. I will gladly support anything for the better of the species. I make it a point to drop off my Salmon heads in the designated collection stations as well with the exception of the occasional crab bait.

Another bump to this thread. The project is going great and I want to express appreciation to anglers who have participated so far. We are still looking for folks to participate. It is a pain in the butt writing stuff down when you clean your fish (I do it for every one and I am actually catching a couple this year!), but, it is also a great opportunity to contribute to what I think is going to be a super interesting long term project. We are particularly interested in working with anglers who fish year round and who would like to be involved in the project indefinitely (multiple years). We are interested in receiving Chinook and Coho stomachs from anywhere in Southern BC.

Big thanks to businesses that are acting as depots for us (you can drop off your stomachs in their freezers, just ask at the desk). Island Outfitters, Pacific Net and Twine in Parksville, Tyee Marine in Campbell River. Also we really appreciate Bon Chovy Charters in Vancouver collecting a bunch of stomachs for us from their guided trips.

If you are interested in participating pm me with your email address and I will add you to the list. All participants will receive an annual summary of data collected (what the fish are eating, what size, where and when).

If you also want Vancouver stomachs....happy to oblige. If Bon Chovy is collecting them I will drop them off there.

Hi All,

Just a bump to this thread. This program is going full steam now with the goal of 2018 being a big year. We really want everyone who can to get involved: read the instructions, collect the guts of fish (Chinook and Coho) and record data for your fish, freeze the stomachs and drop off at one of our depot locations. We are extra excited about winter stomachs as these are harder to get (less anglers) but all stomachs are welcome.

If you are interested email me directly at willduguid@hotmail.com or PM me your email address. I will send you an update about the program along with instructions.

A big thanks to Islander Reels who are donating an MR2 as a draw prize for 2018 (each stomach with complete data is one entry in the draw). Also thanks to DFO stock assessment for providing funding to cover a portion of our costs.

I would be happy to participate in your program. My company is managing a lodge in Port Eliza Inlet and we have large customer base both guided and BYOB. Please shoot me an e-mail- jcharris@telus.net if you require stomachs from the Westcoast.
