Preliminary 2018 salmon outlook/Forecast/Management Measures

Oh Gawd! They are going to shut down Pender Bluffs because of a UBC study! There are going to be some awfully bored observers because we didn't see any transiting whales last year until late July and August, during which time there is a constant flow of U.S. boats transiting the area after clearing customs in Bedwell Harbour and every pod is escorted through by a flotilla of whale watching boats. I would like to know what exactly they are studying and information they plan to obtain, that could possibly be affected by a handful of sport boats that could exit the area before the whales arrive? Please tell me we are not being written off because of some airy fairy study to give a couple university students a Summer job!

That's not correct to my knowledge. The proposed closure of the bluffs has been hotly contested by both sides of the issue, and is for prey acquisition/foraging - the study you refer to is in Area 20.
