After a loooong winter of no prawns, the Dino closing the season off before I got back from shootin' stuff, the Inlet opens tomorrow!

Readying the gear this aft, the boat's fueled, and off before daylight (well that is) to claim THE spot. MMMMMMM.... sure looking forward to a feed or three!

Did rather well actually <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
First afternoon of checking, arrived to discover an entire line of four missing (man, broad daylight, first day, what???). Got a full 5 gallons from the one still there. That eve, a fine fellow called to inform us he'd seen the missing gear get hit by a log boom, and noted the ladz on the tractor had pulled it free and dumped it off the anchor point. Screamed out there first light to find the line not only intact, but loaded with large. Excellent!
Fishing starting to slow a tad now, but still finding about 4 gallons a day for the two of us. All good.
Those first couple of prawn/crab feasts of the year are certainly where it's at!
Time is NOW, so go get 'em if you can!

Well, today it happened again. Some low-life swine stole a complete set of gear sometime in the wee hours over the eve. Took it all, and left not a trace. Spoke with the Lumber Barons, and NO work was conducted in that area for the last 48 hours. The patrol boat and I both figure the SCUM who did this reprehensible deed did so intentionally in the dark. Today was my Birthday, and I just wanted to say to these disgusting actors Thanks for making it special. Folks like YOU have a habit of getting caught eventually. I SINCERELY hope I am on hand when that happens, to let you know in person just how pleased with your behaviour I really am.

Watch your gear out there folks, there are disgusting thieves about again!

Grrrrrrrr... that really sucks!! I am sure I've had my traps checked in Brentwood Bay before, but having it stolen REALLY hurts! Did loose a crab trap off Sidney before - that'll teach me to put down near the commercial guys.

Now now Red, Don't blame the commercial guys. They are only able to check the traps once per day and are not allowed to do so anytime before 7am or after 7pm. Tough luck nog, the scoundrels are operating in saanich inlet already as well. Its getting cheaper to go to thriftys and then to the liquor store. Thieving, One day they'l receive a warm welcome.

In areas where theiving is high, the sure bet is to drop the traps then troll or jig around the area where you have traps. Its not many places where I am comfortable about leaving them unattended. You will find that if you drop the traps an hour before tide change and pull them an hour after tide change you will still do well - if you are dropping in a prawny area.
