Duval Point Lodge – Fishing Report for July 18, 2003

Hello everyone and welcome to the fishing report for July 18. We now have a new leader in the Duval Point Lodge Fishing Derby - Tom Taylor of Oregon. Tom now sports one of our coveted “Over 30lb. Club” hats. Tom picked up a 32 lb. Chinook about a half mile northwest of the lodge using a cut plug herring at 65 feet. A picture of Tom’s salmon can be viewed on our web site (http://www.duvalpointlodge.com/report.html)

This past week we saw many Chinook on the scales between 20-30 lbs. Victor Kee of Astoria, Oregon came very close to getting an “Over 30lb Club” hat with a 29.5 Chinook caught at Duval. However, close only counts in horseshoes and grenades. Victor also brought in a matching 29 lb. ling cod. (A picture of Victor’s ling cod can be viewed on our web site.)

One of our dock boys (my son) Cole Makinson managed to take off one afternoon and hooked into a nice 26 lb. Chinook caught at Duval using an anchovy at 80 feet. (Picture of Cole and his fish can also be viewed at our web site.)

We are now seeing a large number of pinks pass through our area. These pinks are heading to the Fraser River and are huge and in beautiful shape. There’s nothing nicer than a fresh caught pink on the barbeque.

The Coho have also arrived in mass and some of the wild ones are getting close to 15 lbs. We are still seeing hatchery Coho which are usually smaller than the wild fish and can be identified by the missing adipose fin. These are the keepers.

that's why there's a warranty!
