overfilling oil reservoir

A dumb question...on a oil injected 2 stroke (1999 Merc 115hp), is it a problem if the oil reservoir is overfilled, to the top? If so, what's the recommendation to easily partially drain it?

Filled it up by flashlight tonight...man, getting dark earlier already. Suddenly it's full....obviously misread the dip stick. A mess inside the cowling too, from the oil leaking down into it.

no other than a mess it will drain through the cowling its just a resivor. it would be no different than over filling your gas tank

that's what I figured, but some paranoia is healthy when dealing with these excessively expensive toys...break 'em, and that's the end of fun time

Follow up message...visited the boat last night, found it leaking oil.

The oil reservoir cap doesn't fit tight now...I figure what happened is the oil expanded in the midday sun, and because it was full to the top, the expansion popped the cap.

So...another lesson learned, if this happens again, drain a little off before tightening the cap.
