What's the bass fishing like in October? May head down the Island and try my luck sometime that month.

Crafty, were you fishing for smallies when you hooked the largemouth? I have still had zero success with the soft plastics. All my catches have been off of Rapala crankbaits.
I know that the soft plastics work. Terry tells me so. And they look good, are rigged right but I guess I need more practice.
