Rumor was that a guy fished polier pass winter springs thur and fri, first day 5 second 10 one being 18 pounds. I thought I would give it a try 8 hours nothing . on guy out there cought a 4 pounder couple othere boats dont know. lots of cod.

Well ive been searching and it looks like I will try to learn how to crab and prawn out there because there is not much eles out there

I geuss if I want salmon I could drag the boat the port renfu or victoria

How far of a boat ride would it be from thetis to the flat top islands or thrasher rock?

Any ways one ,more week of work then its time to move

Alex

Your in about the same situation as I am in Cowichan bay.
What size boat do you have?
Fishing is not what it used to be around here. You just have to make do.I find winter fishing to be as good or better than before.Take your time and learn the spots.Tent Island can be great for winters.Something to do while soaking your prawn gear.Lots of places for clams/oysters in your area. And there is talk of opening Ling Cod back up(cross fingers).Awesome size lings in Porlier Pass area as well as salmon fishing on outside of Galiano.Iether way its a good day on the water and a beautiful place to live.Just enjoy it.Thats why its called fishing and not catching.
My future plans are to buy about a 17' welded aluminum center console, that I can trailer to Renfrew or Port or NitNat.This would be for the serious fishing trips.Sleep in a tent or in the canopy of the truck.Big coolers, fish all day.Serious stuff. When you think of it,any of these places are only a couple of hours away from iether of us.World class fishing so close to home.
And Thetis is a beautiful place to live.and I have found the people to be very friendly.

Thanks for the reply knucklebuster

I have a 17.5 foot welded aluminum boat with a 90 HP
I think the boat will do well there
As for fishing do you mostly troll or jig?
I dont have any down riggers
I was just wondering if I should pick some up?

Sounds like you have the perfect boat.
A lot of people I know only jig.And they get fish.I don't have the same luck jigging.Unless i'm in their boat copying them.In my boat its trolling 95% of the time.Scotty electrics.Check the buy and sell paper.Lots of used for sale.I use the scotty black box as well but don't know if its necesary. If you plan on trailering to west coast I hope you have a GPS.Even inside its a good thing.I use it every time I drop a trap.Nice thing about a tin can boat ,you can pull up on shore for some beach combing and you have a lot more option for launching.

Hi Alex. I'm in Chemainus. 17' center console Eaglecraft, Mental Floss. See you out there sometime. I've emailed you with phone number.

Happy to show you prawning, crabbing, oyster/clam etc areas anytime the winds not kicking up too much.

Prawning here this winter has been nothing short of awesome.

Not a lot for salmon around here...a few winter springs around tent now and then, buddy Dr Hook got 18 and 8lb outside Porlier last Sunday. He was out again today, too cold and windy for my open boat, but they had no hits.

i fished Tent 4 times this summer and never went home empty handed i also tried sansum a couple times and cought 2 sharks .<img src=icon_smile_dissapprove.gif border=0 align=middle> lol see you out there this spring! im moored in mpale bay

To fish or not to fish,
What a stupid question!
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish, and he will sit on a boat drinking beer for a life time :D
