Logging Crew Mobilizes Near ‘Irreplaceable’ Wetland

Site C dam project is midway as the crow flies between Fort Mac Alberta and Kitamat BC.Once the ones have the power to build and create they will.

We used to jet boat up the peace and fish and hunt some of it's tributaries and lakes. Really interesting country. Great moose hunting. And great rainbows, dollie varden, char and grayling fishing...Would be a shame to see it all flooded for power that hasn't been proven to be necessary. To go ahead without the proper environmental reviews , first nations approval and backing, or proper economic viability studies and reports seems criminal to me... Given the chance, I'm sure trump would be all over it though...

It seems every BC government needs an ill conceived mega project boondoggle. The NDP had the fast ferry fiasco, the Liberals Site C. At least the ferries could just be sold for nothing and the investment written off, there was no legacy from them. Site C is not so easy, and with as much money as has already been sunk into it it seems it cant be stopped.

Just to keep it straight. 1.) BC Fast Ferries Due to various oversights by the government, BC Ferries, design bureaus, and the shipyards, the cost of the program more than doubled from $210 million ($70 million/vessel) to almost $460 million ($150 million/vessel) and final delivery was almost 3 years behind schedule. The Ferries are still being used somewhere and a lot of people learned how to weld with aluminum as a legacy. Now the Liberal mega project boondoggles 1.) BC Place The cost of replacing the roof has been the source of considerable scrutiny for years. The government’s initial budget in 2009 for the replacement, and other renovations, was $365 million. Soon after, it increased to $563 million. In 2012, the government said the final price tag was $514 million. 2.) Convention Centre Convention Centre overruns go from $495M to $883M 3.) Port Mann Port Mann Bridge/Hwy 1 widening: 550% of initial estimate 4.) South perimeter Rd. South Fraser Perimeter Road: 169% of initial estimate 5.) NW Transmission Line Then in 2015 when they opened the Northwest Transmission Line the real cost went to $736 million almost double what they declared when they budgeted for this project. Thus BC Hydro runs a deficit that we the taxpayers have to make up in increased prices. and finally we get to the Site C Dam although probably missed a few https://www.justthedamfacts.ca/high-cost/ The taxpayer should run away from this mess at Site C leaving decomissioning jobs as a legacy.

I think the most frustrating thing is certain self-declared "business-friendly" reporters are quick to declare the BC Liberals as much better than the BC NDP wrt to finances. Guess the facts have never gotten in the way of a good story to scare the kids into submission...

Oh and don't forget about our mortgage (the provincial debt). That total debt figure has grown steadily, from $33.8 billion in 2001 when the BC Liberals came to power, to $45.2 billion in 2011 when Clark became premier, to $66.7 billion in the fiscal year that just ended.
